Why I Share Stories

As we begin a new year, let us share our intentions for the year - along with our “why.”

My “why” is simple: to use my voice, my experience, and my passion to elevate the stories that matter most.

Before I even reached high school, I had a dream to be on television. I was drawn to the power of storytelling, the connection it creates, and the way it brings people together.

That led me to Penn State University to study public relations. During my college years, I interned at a public relations firm in the iconic Empire State Building and studied abroad at the University of Manchester in London, where I showcased my first on-air television package during an internship at Channel M News.

After college, I went to graduate school to earn a master’s degree in broadcast journalism at Syracuse University. I worked as a field reporter in Washington, D.C. for our capstone program for a television station in the Midwest, where I interviewed many of our country’s leaders.

That journey opened the door to an exciting career in television news. I packed my bags and moved from New Jersey across the country to Idaho, where I did not know a single soul.

Throughout my time working at different television stations, I wore many hats, including reporter, weekend weather anchor, filling in as morning and noon newscast anchor, assignment editor, assistant news director, and eventually, news director.

News is fast-paced, impactful, and personal, which is why I loved every moment.

Life took an unexpected turn when a friend encouraged me to consider a role in public relations at a local hospital.

Leaving the newsroom was a difficult decision, but it led to a new chapter in health care communications.

Over the years, I have served in roles spanning internal and external communications, with media relations remaining my first love.

Today, as the owner and founder of Iris Communications, I am privileged to continue sharing stories, not just my own, but stories of organizations and individuals who deserve to be heard.

Let me help to share your story.
