Insights from leaders on being courageous
I recently had the opportunity to attend two inspiring events that hit close to home.
Evolve Magazine - Learning from Leaders 2025
The first was Evolve Magazine’s Learning from Leaders: Mentorship to Sponsorship, where the takeaway was simple, but powerful. Say yes when you are asked to take on more. Be courageous and trust that you are ready, even when it feels uncomfortable.
The second was PRSA Central Florida’s PR Powerhouses, where leaders talked about the bravery it takes to start your own public relations company. They reminded me that imposter syndrome is real, but it does not have to stop you, especially when you have put in the time. Seven years in the profession? You are ready.
These conversations took me right back to when I decided to start Iris Communications. I had built a solid career in public relations, but stepping out on my own was terrifying. I had the knowledge, the experience, and the drive, but there was still that voice whispering, “Are you sure you can do this?” It’s easy to get caught in that mindset where you convince yourself that you are not ready. I pushed forward because deep down, I knew I was.
Putting yourself out there is one of the hardest things you will ever do. You are opening yourself up to judgment, to failure, and to uncertainty.
Every time I have taken that leap, whether it was launching my company, pitching a big idea, or leading a major project, I have had to fight through the doubt. And every time, it has led to something bigger.
Don’t wait until you feel 100% ready because that moment never comes. Take the step and figure it out along the way. If you have put in the work, trust that you are ready.
So if you are feeling that nudge to do something bigger, listen to it. Don’t let doubt win. You are ready. Now go make it happen.
