Media training for executives
Training executives for media interviews is a sweet spot for me. Individuals and organizations need to understand the importance of working with media partners. It's like being a coach, helping individuals and organizations shine when the spotlight is on them. Why is this important? Because working well with media partners can make or break your public image.
After countless trainings for executives and individuals speaking on behalf of an organization, there are some key takeaways that each training comes down to:
Preparation is key. Know your information in and out. You don’t need to memorize a script, but having three main messages to share will keep you on track during any media interview. Think of them as your anchors.
Find ways to personalize the information in an engaging format for the community members who will be receiving your message. Share stories to resonate with your audience.
Know the media outlet. It’s important to understand who you are interviewing with and what media the story will be shared. Doing an interview for television is much different than doing an interview for a radio show. TV needs you to be visually engaging, while radio relies solely on your voice and words.
Understand their deadline. Journalists work on tight deadlines. Make sure that you understand what the timeframe is for a particular story and feel free to ask who else is being interviewed for the story to help you prepare your responses.
Every interview and story is an opportunity to connect with your audience. It’s your moment to shine and tell your story in the best possible way.
