The PR Partner You Didn't Know You Needed
As a communications professional, I'm frequently asked to clarify what exactly it is that I do. When I explain that I specialize in media training, presentation skills, executive communications, and crisis communications, the typical response is, "Oh, so you do spin?" It's intriguing how many people misunderstand the value a communications expert brings to the table, primarily because much of our work happens behind the scenes.
We work diligently in the background to ensure that everything outwardly appears seamless and professional. If your organization has a positive outcome from a product launch or an event, then we have done our job well! Consider an executive who seems polished and knowledgeable on all fronts—this is often thanks to the support of a public relations professional. While the executive must be articulate in front of an audience or camera, it's the PR expert who prepares talking points, drafts responses for potential questions, and provides biographies and headshots for event programs.
In times of crisis, the words spoken—or not spoken—can make or break a brand. An organization's credibility and trustworthiness are directly linked to the communication it shares publicly and internally. As I recently explained to an acquaintance, he summarized my role as a "fixer." In a sense, he's right. In crisis situations, reaching out to someone like me to guide you through the next steps can indeed help resolve issues.
Our ultimate goal is to help your organization emerge from a crisis with the public still viewing it positively. This requires transparency and truthfulness in communication, delivered promptly. So, while "fixer" might be an apt description, it's because we in public relations are also planners. We don't just have a plan A; we have plans B, C, and D ready to go.
If your organization needs assistance, feel free to reach out. I'd be delighted to be your fixer, too.
